Announcing Our New Afterschool Program with Chula Vista Elementary School District
We’re happy to share that we’ve teamed up with the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) to bring arts experiences directly to students in the afterschool programs at Loma Verde and Rohr Elementary Schools.
For the past two years, students have visited the ARTS Center on field trips, helping us build a strong connection with the CVESD and LEAD team. After seeing the impact of these visits, the district invited us to join their after-school programs so students could have even more creative opportunities at school.
Teaching Artist Monét Panza, Program Assistants Karely Serrano and Mitzi Martinez, and Program Coordinator David Peña lead hands-on projects that help students express themselves and connect with each other. Here are some highlights:
Carekeeper Notebook: Students reflect on care in their everyday lives through personal journaling.
Carekeeper Card: Children craft affirming messages to share experiences of care with others.
Care Collage: Each student contributes to a collective artwork honoring memories of care.
Legacy Mural: This session, students will design and paint a mural for their school’s garden sheds to bring new energy to the community gardens.
We hope to make a lasting difference on each campus with art and experiences that inspire students for years to come.
“I joined A Reason to Survive because I love seeing children dive into their creativity and be proud of what they come up with without shame or judgment but acceptance and love.”

Looking Ahead
We’re looking forward to growing our partnership with CVESD and welcoming even more young artists into our creative family. Later this month, students will return to the ARTS Center for another hands-on, joy-filled field trip full of imagination, discovery, and connection. With each new partnership, we hope to inspire creative courage, build caring communities, and spark lifelong inspiration, one campus at a time.
