Young Artists in Harmony
Spring 2021 Cohort
Calling all young and emerging composers!
Young Artists in Harmony (YAH) is a unique music composition program offered in partnership with A Reason To Survive (ARTS) in National City, where advanced music students have the opportunity to:
explore musical composition with professional musicians (the Fall 2022 cohort will feature the opportunity to write for piano, violin and cello)
create and be part of a public performance at ARTS which will also be professionally recorded
meet and collaborate with other like-minded music students of high school and college age
build a musical composition portfolio for college
Participants in YAH receive mentoring from professional Art of Elan musicians, and meet weekly on Saturdays from 12-3pm in person at ARTS. Saturday afternoon sessions will involve professional musicians from Art of Elan to help coach and give feedback on student works. In addition, small weekly assignments and individual sessions for each student will supplement Saturday workshops.
The Fall 2022 program will run Sept 17 - Nov 19, 2022 with a culminating public concert at ARTS on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Each concert is professionally recorded and is available for free streaming and download on Instant Encore (www.instantencore.com/artofelan) and also available on Art of Elan’s YouTube Channel.
Applications are now open to all local high school and college-aged students.
Application deadline is September 10, 2022

About Young Artists in Harmony Program
For the past seven years, Art of Elan has offered its “Young Artists in Harmony” program in partnership with the nationally recognized A Reason To Survive (ARTS), an organization that believes in the power of the arts and creativity to literally transform lives – especially those of kids facing adversity. Consisting of weekly workshops where students have the opportunity to be mentored by Art of Elan musicians through unique apprenticeships, the residency culminates with a multidisciplinary and collaborative concert that showcases original compositions the students create over the 10-week residency, performed by Art of Elan musicians. Each concert is professionally recorded and is available for free streaming and download on Instant Encore (www.instantencore.com/artofelan).
