Handmade: youth ARTS Festival (BTS)

We invite youth and families of all ages to celebrate the imagination, innovation, and the artistic spirit within the young talents in all of our programs.

This month, we are thrilled to offer you an exclusive, behind the scenes, update on our Handmade: Youth Arts Festival, taking place at the ARTS Center on December 9th from 12 to 3 PM. Keep reading to get a look at some of the projects being presented by each of our Fall 2023 programs.

Community ARTS

Our three project teams will each present interactive experiences ranging from printmaking and learning each others unique family recipes, exploring our own “Chosen Family Trees” through animation and story telling and a boutique with upcycled clothing hand-made by the youth in our program.

In addition, we came up with a co-created installation combining the works of students at all 10 National School District locations featuring fabric art and illustration that will be sewn especially to install at the event.

ARTS 4 Justice

At the Handmade: Youth Arts Festival, our program will will be presenting several mosaic sculptures. These sculptures are being made as a collaborative process between multiple students and will explore the ideas of diversity within ourselves and our communities.

ARTS on Campus

Art projects from all ten National School District elementary schools will be curated in mediums both two dimensional and three dimensional. Some classes will be featuring character development experiments through illustration and storytelling, others will be exploring hard and soft sculpture, and we will also display paintings inspired by local prolific artists we find inspiring.

ARTS @ Work

This Fall’s session of Sweetwater High School interns are just past the ideation phase and are now learning how to use a CNC (computer numerical control) machine.

The students are combining creativity and technical skills to precisely laser cut individual designs out of wood inspired by important elements of their community. Each of these individual pieces will fit together to create a larger collaborative sculpture installation.

Be sure to join us to see all the final pieces at the Handmade: Youth Arts Festival happening at the ARTS Center on December 9th, 12 - 3PM!
