At ARTS, we want to amplify the "A" in STEAM -- highlighting how arts and creativity can enliven the process of scientific discovery, and expand one's understanding of the uses of technology as well as the concepts and principles essential to engineering and mathematics.

STEAM Day Festival 2023

The ARTS Center will host its second annual STEAM Day event this Spring with the goal of celebrating the role that creativity and innovation play in the arts, science, technology, engineering, and math. Through our gallery exhibition, youth program installations, and guest artists talks, visitors will have a chance to experience the Other Worlds we have imagined together and explore how arts, science, and technology are all connected!

Highlighting Youth Artwork & Creative Careers

Our Community ARTS Youth, Teens and ARTS @ Work programs have been discussing the current state of our planet and working together on designing and building Other World installations throughout different rooms at the ARTS Center. Visitors will get an intergalactic passport that will encourage them to check out these spaces and immerse themselves into the worlds that each youth team created. A cabinet of curiosities, the role of the internet, and human-like animals at work are just some of the eccentric features you will find in this universe.

On display in the ARTS Gallery March 16 - May 11

The ARTS Gallery will feature our current exhibition, Possible Futures: The Convergence of Art and Technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with artwork created by young and emerging artists who explored the question “How is technology shaping the artist you are becoming?.” Robotic arms, NFTs, and AI-generated illustrations will be featured as part of this multidisciplinary exhibition open to visitors of all ages!

National City STEAM Collaborative

We’ll also host multiple partners from the National City STEAM Collaborative —such as Olivewood Garden, Ocean Connectors, the National City Public Library, and the Fleet Science Center— who will be leading short family-friendly activities and presenting STEAM resources to South Bay youth and families who join us that day.

Join us to experience what creativity, innovation, and arts in the context of STEAM look like when young people take the lead and the community supports them!

HELP US TO ELEVATE THE “A” IN STEAM

ARTS takes STEAM seriously! We are committed to providing programming that encourages youth and community members to use STEAM principles in their artistic practice.

This year marks the third year we have collaborated with National City’s 16 Weeks of STEAM to provide community-programming, our second STEAM-inspired exhibition in the ARTS Gallery, and our second STEAM Day at ARTS!
