A Reason To Survive (ARTS) is dedicated to healing, inspiring, and empowering youth facing life struggles by providing innovative arts-based programs, education, and employment opportunities.
ARTS was founded in 2001 and has experienced incredible growth due to the high demand for, and success of, its programs. We currently operate on a $600,000 budget with 5 full time staff, 3 part time, 10 student staff and interns, and 100 volunteers. We serve 5,000 youth each year through 3 core programs – Heal (Outreach to hospitals and shelters), Inspire (The Pat D’Arrigo ARTS Center), and Empower (Education and Employment in the Arts)
Recently, the Board of Directors and Executive Director went through a strategic organizational and programmatic restructuring to ensure continued growth and long term sustainability. ARTS is looking for a dynamic, experienced Deputy Director to join our team and partner with the Executive Director to take over leadership and management of the internal day to day business and program operations of the organization. The Deputy Director is a critical part of the leadership team who provides strategic and operational leadership to help manage this growth to meet our tactical and strategic objectives.
The Deputy Director will be primarily responsible for:
• Fiscal monitoring and management of all departments. Work closely with the Controller and Managers in budget creation and analysis, forecasting, cash burn analysis, financial preparation and reporting to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
• Work with Controller on HR related issues.
• Consult with / inform the Executive Director, as necessary, of actions taken and effects achieved, mainly by way of regular agreed reports.
• Assessment and creation of systems, policies, and procedures to ensure effective and efficient business operations in all departments – Operations, Programs, and Development.
• Provides leadership and direction for staff, setting an effective agenda and ensuring performance goals are met.
• Ensure that appropriate processes and approaches are in place which enable the effective management and development of employees, interns, student staff, and volunteers.
• The candidate will have full delegated authority to act on behalf of the Executive Director in his absence.
• Work with Program Managers and external partner sites and clients to implement new program structure.
• Responsible for overseeing and supervising program staff as well as providing direction, training, coaching and recognition. Provide necessary support and expertise to program staff and volunteers in streamlining processes, creating efficiencies and identifying opportunities for growth and development; support integration of youth program components and collaboration among the team.
• Create and manage all evaluation systems for new program structure; steer evaluation systems and develop a comprehensive strategy to integrate evaluation into all segments of ARTS youth programs. Lead ongoing, consistent oversight of collection and analysis of program evaluation data; develop and manage systems for reviewing evaluation data with staff.
• Cultivate, strengthen, and manage strategic community partnerships to help achieve program goals.
•Proven ability in fundraising, donor relations, sponsorships, grants.
• Provide leadership, oversight, and guidance to Development staff
•Support all marketing and external communication efforts
• Represent ARTS externally on behalf of the Executive Director.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and passion for, ARTS mission.
• At least 3-5 years experience in nonprofit management – preferably with an emerging organization
• At least 5 years experience leading, managing, and motivating a team.
• At least 3-5 years experience creating, overseeing, and managing budgets and financials
• Demonstrated understanding of the importance, purpose and processes related to designing and implementing program and organization evaluation strategies, including collection and analysis of data
• Demonstrated ability in working with nonprofit staff, community organizations, government agencies, board of directors, volunteers, and parents
• Strong leadership, project management, administrative and organizational skills
• Strong relationship management skills
• Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office
• Degree in arts and/or business administration
• Experience using Donor Perfect
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work hard independently, responsibly and ethically
• Confident, self-driven and professional in demeanor
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; collaborative in nature
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable speaking in public
• Extremely detail-oriented
