College Bound!

This is one of the many murals A Reason To Survive creates with kids to beautify their schools and community.

ARTS is excited about partnering with the County Office of Education and Excel Youth Zone. We’ve been working with 90 sixth-grade students from the 2011 graduating class at Howard Pence Elementary on a Service Learning Mural Project. The kids are beautifying their school while starting their fellow students down the road to higher education.

This will be an ongoing project as the incoming sixth-grade class will be starting the next phase. New students at Pence aren’t just entering K-6 anymore. They are on their way to much greater achievements. Many will be the first in their families to go on to college.

This mural will continue into the school throughout all the hallways. The existing pink walls will be transformed into beautiful murals of blue sky and green grass to give the halls an “open campus feeling”. The campus murals will also be adorned with large representations of university architecture depicting specific schools that each Pence classroom has adopted in their efforts to increase higher education readiness. Two of ARTS Empower students, Inocente and Tashia, volunteered their time and talent to ensure this project’s success!

Your donation to ARTS makes a difference not only in the lives of the children we serve, but also enriches entire communities!
